A quick bio of SHANGHAI LOVE MOTEL, almost serious

Now that NYC rock and roll is getting raw and wild and weird again, the city just might be ready for Shanghai Love Motel. Who do they sound like? They won't usually volunteer this themselves, but they thought you'd never ask... think of classic '60s garage-pop and folk-rock... think pure NYC/UK punk, the pub-rock it evolved out of, the ambitious art-thrash it evolved into... the angular harmonies and twisted structures of electric downtown jazz... think Stones covering Dylan, Dylan covering the Stones... think Monk punk, dunked in funk... think NRBQ thrown into a blender with Mission of Burma... think Richard Thompson in a high-altitude kung fu contest with Neil Young... think chords like Charlie Parker, words like Graham Parker, atmosphere like Robert Parker... think Radiohead without the Weltschmerz, Pere Ubu without the homemade electronics, XTC without the pastoralism and the hiccups... think Costello, except that SLM has two of them... think of the first and second British Invasions, and all the times we've invaded them back... oh, and to find out about the SLM guys themselves , look here.
